Hidden Glasgow presents: The Hidden Gardens!

We've got a fitting recommendation for you today! We're featuring The Hidden Gardens, an urban greenspace with strong community roots!

About the Hidden Gardens:

The Gardens were created in 2002, purpose-built to be a sanctuary for peace by NVA Europe, a public art charity that specialised in the regeneration of disused land. The Hidden Gardens have an industrial past, being used in the 1890s as the Copelawhill Tram Works and Depot, formerly being home to the 300 horses used to pull trams! These days, the Gardens are home to various community groups, such as the Men's Group, Tai Chi, as well as art installations, and more. Check out the tour below by YouTuber Claire Casey aka 'A Scottish Odyssey' for a closer look at the Gardens!

How are the Gardens hidden?

The Hidden Gardens can be found off Pollokshaws Road in the South side, underneath the Sikh Gurdwara temple, and behind the Tramway, the popular arts and gallery space. The First Bus 4, 5, 6 and 7 all stop on nearby Victoria Road, or the closest train stop is Pollokshields East. The Gardens are quite literally tucked away behind the surrounding buildings, hence the name!

Why should I go to The Hidden Gardens?

The Gardens are completely free and really have something for everyone! If you're a bit of a foodie, why not join in with their Cultural Cookery course, or visit with wee ones and learn about biodiversity, wildlife and beasties! Coming up on Sunday 30th October is 'Djembe, Food & Stories' with creators, food, stories, and live performances to celebrate Black History Month. Not up for socialising? You can also simply take a moment of peace and clarity whilst enjoying a thought-provoking sculpture exhibition in the Gardens.

What's nearby?

The Gardens are close to many trendy Southside bars, restaurants, and coffee shops, but if you're on a budget there's also a McDonald's and a KFC nearby to keep it easier on the wallet. There's also the option of Lidl or Tesco if you'd like to take a picnic and eat it al fresco!
